Dear Missionary,
What are your family's special needs?
- Developmental problems in your children
- Transition from high school to college
- Readjustment to American culture
- Strengthening your marriage
- Recovering from burnout
- Continuing education
- Health issues
Southern California in general, and the U.S. Center for World Mission in particular, has a wealth of resources to meet your needs as a returning missionary family while enabling you to continue and extend your strategic service for the advance of God's kingdom. Specifically:
- For children with developmental issues, the USCWM is a regular evaluation site of the International Christian Association of Neurodevelopmentalists (ICAN) and its sister organization Help with Learning.
- The INSIGHT BA curriculum sponsored by the USCWM provides an excellent transition into college, especially for third culture kids.
- For school children adjusting to American culture, the USCWM hosts the Judson International School. Note: This is the first U.S. school to operate under the auspices of NICS (Network of International Christian Schools).
- For marital stress and burnout, the Pasadena area includes the Fuller Seminary School of Psychology (626) 584-5555 and other high quality Christian counseling services, including ministries present on the USCWM facility.
- You undoubtedly encountered problems on the field for which you need better answers, and perhaps better credentials. The USCWM provides a context of formal and informal opportunities designed just for you.
- For health issues, the USCWM group plan with Kaiser Permanente provides convenient access to high quality care, with many additional specialists also in the Southern California area.
The U.S. Center for World Mission is not a commuter center, but a community, located (with 60 other ministries) on and around a former college campus.
Most staff live in discounted housing owned by the USCWM's affiliated university. Your family receives priority consideration for placement in such housing.
The USCWM work day begins with listening together to the Lord in mutual exhortation and encouragement. This unites USCWM staff in a growing understanding of God and His purpose.
With a K-12 school and child-friendly work place, the USCWM is a great place for healthy kids as well as those with special challenges.
The USCWM is a marvelous community for returning missionaries such as yourself to maximize your impact while serving in a community that values your achievements and sacrifices.
